How to Apply

To apply to our Anthropology Master of Arts (M.A.) Degree Program, the following materials are required:

  • Graduate School application form and any applicable fees
    • The application fee is currently being waived for the first application to any NMSU graduate program. Any additional applications will be charged a fee. 
  • A statement of purpose from the candidate addressing their research interests and objectives
    • We encourage applicants to explain how our specific MA program serves these interests and objectives 
  • Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
    • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) is required for all applicants seeking regular admission to the Graduate School (see the Graduate School catalog for more information). If your GPA is below a 3.0, please contact the Anthropology Graduate Advisor first before beginning an application. 
  • Letters of recommendation from three persons familiar with the candidate’s academic record
  • International applicants should also review the NMSU Graduate School's requirements for international students 

The target dates for applications to the Anthropology Graduate Program are listed below. Other applications will be received and reviewed on a rolling basis.

  • February 15 (for Fall matriculation)
  • September 1 (for Spring matriculation)
